What is nafilah sacrifice?

A voluntary offering is an offering made outside of the obligatory Eid-al-Adha - purely out of love, faith and as charity. It is not obligatory, but is performed for the sake of Allah, with the intention of helping others and receiving reward.

Why a nafilah sacrifice ?

SunriseHelp works worldwide - in areas where poverty, war, drought or social exclusion hinders people in their daily lives. In many of these regions, meat is a rare luxury. Even during Eid, many receive nothing.

With a voluntary sacrifice:

  • Reach out to people throughout the year, not just during the Feast of Sacrifice.
  • Prevent food shortages in refugee camps, orphanages and crisis areas.
  • Give your hope to people who would otherwise be forgotten.

Characteristics of a nafilah offering

  • Not required, but highly recommended.
  • Can be done throughout the year, especially at special times (such as on an important day for the person or on Friday).
  • Often done out of gratitude, after an answer to prayer, or simply to help others.
  • The meat is usually donated in full to the poor, orphans, refugees or needy families.

Where do the nafilah offerings go?

At Sunrise Help, we make sure your offering:

  • Is slaughtered according to Islamic guidelines (halal, hygienic and respectful).
  • Enters families in Africa, South Asia and refugee regions in the Middle East, among others.
  • Transparent is performed - you get updates and photos whenever possible.
